l’artiste

Ancien Chef du départe­ment des Arts visuels et Artiste en rési­dence au Banff Cen­tre, Takao Tan­abe est né à Prince Rupert en 1926. De 1946 à 1949, il a fait des études à la Win­nipeg School of Art avant de par­tir à New York où il a con­tinué à se per­fec­tion­ner à la Brook­lyn Museum Art School. Après avoir passé l’été de 1953 à la Banff School of Fine Arts [Banff Cen­tre], Tan­abe a pour­suivi des études à la Cen­tral School of Arts and Crafts à Lon­dres en Angleterre et à l’Université de Tokyo au Japon. Takao Tan­abe est le récip­i­endaire de plusieurs bourses, com­prenant l’Emily Carr Foun­da­tion Schol­ar­ship en 1953 et celles du Con­seil des arts du Canada en 1959 et en 1969. Plus récem­ment, Tan­abe a été nommé à l’Ordre du Canada pour souligner ses con­tri­bu­tions con­tin­ues au paysage cul­turel du Canada et son sou­tien assidu envers les artistes plus jeunes. Mem­bre de l’Académie royale des arts du Canada, Takao Tan­abe a été le sujet de nom­breuses expo­si­tions au niveau national et inter­na­tional, il a pro­duit un bon nom­bre de com­man­des publiques et ses œuvres sont représen­tées au Musée des beaux-arts du Canada et dans beau­coup d’autres col­lec­tions publiques et privées. En tant que paysag­iste cana­dien, Tan­abe a joui d’une car­rière longue et dis­tin­guée. Ses tableaux réal­isés à l’acrylique se dis­tinguent par une exé­cu­tion en minces lavis et dont les qual­ités sub­tiles et translu­cides rap­pel­lent l’aquarelle.
